A kiss-cut sticker is cut through the vinyl but not the paper backing, leaving a border around the design. That border is the trick: it gives you an edge to grab, so the sticker peels without a fingernail fight.

Because the backing stays whole, several designs can share one sheet, which is how sticker packs and multi-logo sets are made.

  • Top layer cut, backing intact, so it peels clean every time
  • Put several designs on one sheet, or run them as singles
  • The border suits packaging seals and sticker packs
  • Laminated waterproof vinyl, matte or gloss finish

Labels that survive a fridge, an ice bath, and a farmers market summer. We tested four suppliers; these were the only ones that did not lift.

The free dieline saved us. Our first supplier wanted $400 for structural work; here it came with the quote, and the sample folded perfectly first try.

Cut the top, keep the backing

A kiss-cut sticker is printed and laminated like any other, then cut with a lighter touch: the blade goes through the vinyl but stops at the paper backing. The design ends up with a square or rounded border of backing around it, still attached to the sheet.

That leftover border is not waste. It is the handle.

Why the border helps

Peel a borderless sticker off flat backing and you scratch at the edge to find a lift point. The kiss-cut border gives you that edge for free, so the sticker comes up clean in one motion. For anything a customer has to apply themselves, a packaging seal, a freebie in a parcel, that easy peel is the difference between a smooth open and a fight.

The backing staying whole has a second payoff: several designs can share one sheet. That is how sticker packs, loyalty sets, and multi-logo sheets get made.

Where kiss-cut wins

Choose kiss-cut for sticker packs, sheets of mixed designs, box and bag seals, and any high-volume run where fast peeling matters more than a shaped outline. When the shape itself is the point and you want no border at all, die-cut stickers are the pick, and the comparison guide covers both.

FAQ

Are kiss-cut stickers as durable as die-cut?

Yes. Same laminated waterproof vinyl. The only difference is the cut depth, not the material.

Can I put several designs on one sheet?

Yes, that is a main reason to pick kiss-cut. Mixed designs share a backing as a pack or sheet.

Which is cheaper?

The two run close on price at the same size and quantity. Pick by use, not cost. See the die-cut vs kiss-cut guide. Get a quote.
