The box the tree came in will not last
Manufacturers ship trees in the lightest box that survives the store. It is not built to be opened and re-packed every year, and it usually splits by the second season. A double-wall storage box is built for the repeat cycle: pack, stack, store, unpack, over and over.
Size to the tree, folded
Measure your tree in its collapsed state, not its display height, and add room for the stand and any lights you store with it. A 7.5 ft tree folds down far shorter than 7.5 ft, so the box sizes above are set to the folded bulk, not the standing height.
