Collapsible Rigid Boxes
Luxury rigid feel that ships flat to slash freight and storage costs.
Rigid boxes usually ship pre-assembled, which means you pay to move a lot of air. Collapsible rigid boxes fold flat and pop up at packing, so freight and warehouse space drop sharply.
The finished box still has the weight and wrap of a traditional setup box.
- Ships flat, assembles in seconds with hidden magnets
- Up to 80% less shipping volume than pre-built rigid boxes
- Same wrapped, premium feel as a setup box
- Ideal for ecommerce brands shipping their own packaging
“The magnetic boxes are the nicest thing about our subscription, and I say that as the person who makes the product. Zero damage across 3,000 shipments.”
“Our cakes travel 40 minutes across town and arrive looking like they left the counter. The window boxes sell them before anyone opens the lid.”
The freight problem with rigid boxes
A traditional setup box ships assembled. Order five thousand and you are paying to truck and rack five thousand boxes of air, which routinely costs more over a year than the boxes themselves. Collapsible construction removes most of that: the box arrives as a flat panel about 25 mm thick and pops into shape in a few seconds at the packing bench.
The arithmetic is blunt. Flat-packed, a pallet carries roughly four to five times the units of the same box pre-built. Warehouse racking, inbound freight and storage fees all divide by the same number.
How the fold works
The side walls hinge at the base and fold inward; hidden magnets in the corners pull the walls square and hold them there. Assembly is one motion per side, no glue, no tape, no training beyond a ten-second demonstration. Closed, the box is indistinguishable from a fixed setup box: same 1200 gsm wrapped greyboard, same soft-touch or linen wraps, same foil and embossing options as our magnetic closure boxes.
Where it is the wrong choice
Honesty saves returns. Below about 100 units the collapsible die and magnet cost may not beat the freight saving, so small gifting runs often do better with a standard two-piece box. Extremely heavy contents, over roughly 4 kg, prefer a fixed-wall build. And very small boxes, under about 10 cm, gain little because they barely stack-save. Everything between those lines, which is most e-commerce packaging, is where this format pays for itself.
Do the magnetic corners weaken with reuse?
No. Customers fold and reflatten them for storage; the magnets and hinges are the most durable parts of the box.
What is the usual turnaround?
Around 14 days from approved artwork for standard runs, since each box is wrapped and fitted by hand.
